Flag Day Etiquette

Flag Day is a celebration of the American flag that occurs each year on the anniversary of the flag’s official adoption, June 14. The “Stars and Stripes” became the official American flag on June 14, 1777 when the Continental Congress adopted it in the middle of the Revolutionary War.

It is believed the colors of the flag were picked for the following reasons:

White- for purity and innocence

Red- for valor and hardiness

Blue- for vigilance, perseverance, and justice

There are only certain places where it is permissible to fly an American flag 24 hours a day. However, as long as it is properly illuminated, a flag may be flown all night.

Did you know that the Army celebrates its birthday on Flag Day, June 14?
